JOB OPPURTUNITY

MCS Ltd requires a Domiciliary Team Leader for the Bedford and Northampton areas.

Summary of role:
To generate and promote a caring and supportive environment for service users by implementing very high standards of professional care and support. To assist the Domiciliary Manager in all aspects of ensuring a quality provision throughout the business.

Responsibilities

Documentation:
*   To review client and staff files to ensure that they comply with policies and regulatory requirements.
*   To oversee the preparation of support plans and implementation of policy of ensuring these plans are in place before support commencement
*   To understand and implement CQC compliance standards in all aspects of the business
*   To review on a rolling basis each CQC essential standard and comply with these, reporting monthly
*   To maintain all quality files such as working time audits, complaint files, log sheet monitoring etc
*   To report weekly to the Group Operations Manager on outstanding issues or matters that need to be addressed

Recruitment:
*   To monitor staff turnover and work towards achieving continuing reduction in staff departure rates, reporting quarterly
*   To plan and forecast recruitment requirements, ensuring recruitment needs are met

Clients:
*   To resolve specific issues raised by clients in consultation with the Domiciliary Manager, ensuring all correspondence is properly recorded and filed
*   To ensure that all computerised and manual records are up to date and complete
*   To Liaise with clients, relatives, representatives and social workers

Marketing and promotion of the business:
*   To work actively to promote the growth and development of the business through marketing exercises and recruitment promotion of existing and new services
*   To understand and contribute to achievement of growth forecasts

Salary: £18,130-19,292 per annum

Mentaur Day Opportunity Resource Centre was a huge success.
The 7th of March marked the date and everyone seems to enjoy all the activities available. Users of service, families and staff gather around arts and crafts made by MDORC users of service in a truly familiar environment. Several arts and crafts projects of the centre users of service were available for purchase.

For the second year Mentaur Group has been shortlisted as a finalist for the LaingBuisson 2014 Independent Specialist Care Awards in the Autism Spectrum Disorders category.

 

The annual awards ceremony exists to highlight the best performing private and voluntary providers of social care services for adults with learning disabilities or physical disabilities or mental health conditions.

 

The winners will be announced on the 12th of March in a Gala Dinner at the London Lancaster Hotel.

Mentaur Group Operations Director, Isabel Melo, has once again been shortlisted as a finalist for the 'Care Innovator' award category for the national finals of the 2014th Great British Care Awards.

 

Isabel devotion to care and her continuous effort in developing innovative practices aimed at improving users of service quality of life is one of her most symbolic traits and Mentaur's main philosophy. It is with great pride that she is once again shortlisted for this category.

 

The winners will be announced on the 26th of April in a Gala Dinner at The Grosvenor - London Marriott hotel.

Mentaur Group attends ‘Transitions Big Event’ - Transitions event in Northampton

With the main theme being personalization the Transitions event was held at the Park In, Northampton on 11th November.

 

Mentaur Group was present at the event with a stall featuring MCS and Mentaur Ltd. care offers in Northampton. From residential units to domiciliary care, a wide range of specialised services were promoted and explain to the visitors.

 

The event also featured workshops and a section of performances entitled ‘Northampton Got Talent’. One of Mentaur Ltd. users of service, Luke Smith from Stoke House, presented the audience with a hand drum performance together with his classmates from college.

 

According to Northamptonshire County Council the 3rd edition of this event was a huge success with an attendance of over 500 people.

15th National Care Awards

On Wednesday 23rd Mentaur Group was present at the latest transitions event in Bedford. Named ‘Preparing for adulthood’ this event intended to ‘provide young people and their families with information about how to prepare for the transition from childhood to adult life’.


In a friendly environment exhibitors had the opportunity to present their services and provide information to all attendees. Mentaur Group was represented by Mentaur Ltd. and MCS – Mentaur Community Services giving out information on Mentaur’s Bedford homes and MCS’ services and philosophy.

15th National Care Awards

Lavanda Villa, one of Mentaur Ltd care homes in Bedford, was the proud winner of the ‘Putting People First’ category at the Great East Midlands Care Awards 2013.

 

Lavanda Villa is a small specialist care home for 4 young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders. It is an accredited service by the National Autistic Society that has been set up to ensure that the staff team are able to assist people in achieving their personal goals in a supportive and autism-friendly environment. The philosophy is to encourage family style living in conjunction with an enabling and person-centered approach and culture.

15th National Care Awards

Lavanda Villa has been shortlisted for another award, this time for the 15th National Care Awards in the Excellence in Resident Handling category.


This is a new category at the 15th edition of the National Care Awards. This category intent to recognize a care home that has clearly shown, through its use of equipment and staff training, that is has an ongoing passion and commitment to moving and handling its residents in a safe and respectful way.

 

Lavanda Villa is a small specialist home for 4 adults with autism and has recently been certified the National Autistic Society as an Autism Accredited Service.

 

The 15th National Care Awards ceremony will take place on 29th of November at the Hilton London Metropole Hotel.

Isabel Melo, Mentaur Operations Director, and Lavanda Villa have been shortlisted as finalists for the Great East Midlands Care Awards 2013 in the Care Innovator award and the Putting People First awards categories.


Being a strong believer that people come first to their disabilities, Isabel Melo trusts that the way she has been running Mentaur has allowed for a lot of people to find a home within Mentaur’s residences. It is with great pride and a sense of achievement that she continuously sees her hard work recognized.


Following Isabel’s philosophy, Lavanda Villa was created with a sense of unity and service towards its residents. The service is developed and adjusted to the service users need and objectives and this as permitted interesting improvements in its client’s quality of life.


The Great East Midlands Care Awards ceremony will take place on 18th of October at the Belfry Hotel in Nottingham.

Mentaur celebrates 2013th Learning Disabilities Week

On August 21st Mentaur celebrated the 2013th Learning Disabilities Week. The event who gathered Mentaur staff, users of service and their relatives started at 10:30 and lasted till 14:00. Between music, games and balloons the celebrations of 2013th Learning Disabilities Week was a complete success.


Some of Mentaur’s users of service sang along with a music teacher playing a variety of instruments while others played traditional English games. Throughout the celebrations the users of service were also presented with balloon flowers, dogs and giraffes by one of Mentaur staff members.

 

A pic nic in the lawn followed the activities. Mentaur users of service gathered around for sandwiches, juices and some sweet treats. In the end, a considerable amount of happy faces watched 200 balloons being released into the air with messages form Mentaur users of service attached to them.

M25anniversaryIn 1988 Mentaur was born as a response to the ever-growing voice of people with a disability or mental disorder, demanding to be given the same rights and treatments as other people.

 

Working on behalf of this diverse group of individuals, in a myriad of ways, Mentaur aim is to assure the right to a dignifying life for people with learning disabilities and mental health problems.


For the past 25 years, providing cutting edge residential and day support services, Mentaur is currently operating 10 residential units and 2 day centres in Northamptonshire; Bedfordshire and Leicestershire.


Most recently, Mentaur has also developed strong efforts in training, education and research programmes regarding mental health and learning disabilities by promoting debate and conferences on these issues.


We are very proud of the road we have travelled so far and strongly optimistic on what lays ahead.

5th Gala ‘As Notícias’ awarded Mentaur as Business Project of the Year

Hosted by ‘As Notícias’ - a Portuguese publication in the UK – the 5th annual gala awarded Mentaur as Business Project of the Year. This event aims to honour companies who have distinguished themselves in reaching out for the Portuguese community and the promotion of their home country beyond frontiers. The awards ceremony took place in London, at the Pestana Chelsea Bridge Hotel, on May 11th.

Isabel receiving the award from the Portuguese PresidentMentaur's Director wins Entrepreneurial Innovation Award in Portugal

It is a great pride and pleasure to announce that Isabel Melo, our Operational Director, has been recognised by her home country Portugal, for the extraordinary work done at Mentaur. The decision was announced on Wednesday 6th June 2012 at a ceremony in Lisbon, lead by the Portuguese President himself.

 

The award, called “Prémio Empreendedorismo Inovador na Diáspora Portuguesa” (Prize for Entrepreneurial Innovation in the Portuguese Diaspora), was created in 2008 by COTEC –Association for Innovation – under the patronage of the Portuguese President of the Republic. The award seeks to publicly honour Portuguese citizens living abroad that have distinguished themselves for their entrepreneurial, innovative and responsible role in the country they live in. They also must be an example of effective integration in the corresponding economies and have helped stimulate the cooperation between Portugal and the respective host countries.
 
This 5th Edition of the “Prémio Empreendedorismo Inovador na Diáspora Portuguesa” received the highest number of nominations in its history, 141 Portuguese entrepreneurs from 34 countries and Isabel was unanimously acclaimed as the only winner!
 
As fate would have it, June 2012 not only represented this extraordinary achievement in Isabel’s life; the 8th June marked Mentaur’s 24th anniversary!

 

This prize's importance is such, that Isabel was interviewed for "Sociedad Civil", a Portuguese current affairs TV programme that runs from Monday to Friday on RTP2. The interview was aired on 18th October 2012.

We are very proud to announce Stoke House's recognition by Northamptonshire PCT "for good practice, continued development and commitment to excellence achieved during annual assessment".

We are happy to announce the Aurora House’s nomination to the National Dementia Care Awards 2011. This unique facility, specially developed for people with a learning disability and dementia, was one of the finalists in the Best Interior Dementia Design category.

 

Aurora House, which was in competition with all generic dementia facilities nationwide, is designed to meet the needs of younger adults with a learning disability and dementia.

Our latest home is a small specialist facility in Bedford designed to provide 7 adults with learning disability and dementia with a home which complies with their specific needs and understands their singularity.

 

The project is led by experienced professionals in the fields of dementia care and learning disabilities, health and care. We will be welcoming users of this service from 1st November, 2011 .
